Corn Price Update March 2011
Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)

For the following states: WI, MN, IA, SD, ND, NE, KS, MO
Organic grain and feedstuffs were mostly higher with the increase in non-organic grain. Feed grade grains continue to rise on the spot market as the conventional market rises on the Chicago Board of Trade. The corn prices are approximately 65% higher than March 2010. Barley prices are rising as producers look to alternative sources of energy and protein. Some grain buyers are in the beginning stages of their 2011 crop contracts, with some waiting for the end of the organic conference season to assure they are fully informed of many producers' plans for the upcoming planting season.

Trading in organic grain and feedstuff prices were mostly steady, with feed grade corn higher with many producers not willing to sell at current prices. Tight supplies and strong demand from the poultry industry continues to strengthen the corn prices.
