Dear members, friends and supporters of NODPA
We invite you to be a supporter of NODPA’s Eighth Annual Field Days Event to be held Sunday evening October 26, all day Monday October 27 and Tuesday morning, October 28, 2008 at the Holiday Inn, Auburn/Fingerlakes, New York 13021. The Field Days will include a field trip, workshops, a producer meeting to discuss organic dairy industry issues, a trade show and plenty of time to enjoy conversation and good local food.
The Northeast Organic Dairy Producers Alliance (NODPA) is an alliance of organic producers whose mission is to enable organic family dairy farmers to have informed discussion about matters critical to the well being of the organic dairy industry as a whole. Our annual Field Days event is one of the ways which NODPA raises money for its annual operating expenses and bring its members together to network and visit. In this tumultuous year for organic dairies, we appreciate your support of organic dairy family farms!
This year, the Field Days will be held in the beautiful Fingerlakes district of New York. Trade show participants can set up their display on the Sunday evening and network with NODPA leaders and producers who will be socializing after their day long strategy session.
The Monday morning workshops will feature presentations on the future of organic milk prices, marketing of organic milk and a panel of leading organic dairy producers from around the country to give their perspective on the future of organic dairy production. After lunch on Monday there will be a field trip to Klaas and Mary-Howell Martins Farm and their Lakeview operation to gain some valuable insight into different production methods, rotations and the future for organic grain and forage. From 5:00 pm onwards there will be opportunities for farmers to visit the trade show; network with one another; learn about resources; and meet resource people in the organic dairy industry during the annual NODPA annual meeting and dinner followed by the producer meeting.
Tuesday morning will feature workshops on livestock production, value-added enterprises and ideas for different grazing rotations. The Field Days will end at noon on October 28, to be followed by the Understanding Organics and Grazing Herds: Livestock Management and Health Conference (for more information go to: http://www.qmps.vet.cornell.edu/nofa/nofa.html
By supporting this event, you will be supporting family farms in the northeast that farm organically to improve our environment and support the next generation of organic family farmers.
