The Latest East & Midwest Grain & Hay Prices

Added November 30, 2008

Upper Midwest (Des Moines, IA)
11.16.08
Organic grain and feedstuff prices were mostly lower on light demand and moderate offerings with slow market activity, compared to two weeks ago. The economy continues to be a major factor in the organic market.  Harvest progress has been slow.  According to USDA NASS, corn harvest in the U.S. is only 78 percent complete, compared to the five year average of 94 percent.  In Iowa, 70 percent of the corn harvest is complete, down from the five year average of 95 percent.  Nebraska's corn harvest is 67percent complete, compared to the five year average of 93 percent.  Organic milo traded from $7.50 to $8.00 per bushel during this period.
All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)

11.15.08
Compared to two weeks ago, organic grain and feedstuff prices were mostly steady.  Demand was light for light to moderate offerings. Trading activity was light as economic issues continue to play major influence in organic prices.  With questionable market conditions, many producers have elected not to sell but to wait for higher price levels. Feed grade corn and soybeans was steady. Feed grade oats steady to firm. Offers for soybean meal ranged from 950.00 to 990.00 per ton.
All prices FOB price per bushel except where stated (trucking cost needs to be added)
